one of the greatest films of all time

Judging by the first half hour of this film, "Bad Boy Bubby" is a darkly comic, cruelly sardonic horror drama, but judging by the final half hour, "Bad Boy Bubby" is a beautiful romantic comedy that is, above all, about the spirit of humanity. How exactly did this happen? Well, to find out I'd recommend you seek out this masterpiece of black comedy, disturbing psychological horror, unexpected romance, and heartfelt drama as soon as is earthly possible. It's truly amazing how a filmmaking feat like this one was pulled off, this is the kind of film you'd think would never be made, but it was made...and it's so, so, so very brilliant!

A little weird at first... but Bubby grows to you quickly.

Just saw the film after one of my friends insisted for quite a while to take the time for it. After some hesitation, I gave Bubby a chance, and I'm glad I did. Certainly a little strange in the first few minutes - especially if you don't know what to expect. Bubby is, as far as his mindset goes, a kid, trapped in a grown man's body, thanks to his mother keeping him locked in a basement for thirty years. The film shows brilliantly how a person with so little room for development would act, think, talk and feel. And - not to get too much into the plot itself - when such a person is given an opportunity to leave the basement after such a long time and explore the wide world... well, the film shows us how a person would act and react, perceive everything and learn. Learn about people, God (not in a way some of you may expect), music and love. You start rooting for Bubby and he grows to you. Needless to say, the actor portrays the character very well. It's a nice trip into Bubby's head - and everyone else's for that matter. Give it a chance, watch it until the end and give Bubby a chance. It really is worth the time.

Quite Weird, Yet Oddly Right

Bubby (Nicholas Hope) has spent thirty years trapped in the same small room, tricked by his mother. One day, he manages to escape, and, deranged and naive in equal measures, his adventure into modern life begins. As someone who likes strange and unusual films, I have to say this is among the most strange and unusual. For those who can be offended, there is plenty to be offended by here. Just in the first few minutes there is animal cruelty, full frontal male nudity and incest. So, yeah, this is not for everyone. And as the film goes on, it gets... well, not sure what it gets. Some have called this the Australian "Forrest Gump", which is not really accurate, but in some ways very accurate. Bubby is not so much stupid as just not aware of the world, and yet he seems to successfully manage it...
