Ah, German composers

I enjoyed this immensely. Piano sonatas, concertos and etudes throughout left me both satisfied and wanting more. What a pleasure to be introduced to Serhiy Salov. Exquisite technique remaniscant of Horowitz. I'm very glad to now know of him. Patrick Stewart is well cast and delivers a memorable performance. I admit I am a fan and cannot get enough of him. Katie Holmes has matured into a beautiful woman. Her character and performance is heart warming. Giancarlo Esposito is wonderful and Ihis pep talk for his struggling client touches on a truth for most of us. The location, soundtrack, plot and pace is perfect for a rainy afternoon with a fire and some Earl Grey. Getting into the pace and the soundtrack is big with this movie. If I were wound up or preoccupied, this review would not have been so glowing. Director Claude Lalonde and writer Louis Godbout triumphed.

Without music life would be a mistake

Henry Cole (Patrick Stewart ) is an aging pianist who suffers from some old age forgetfulness. He has granted 'New Yorker" reporter and former student Helen Morrison (Katie Holmes ) access to him so she can write a fluff piece. That is about it. I like the first half of the film, the second half was ad nauseam. This is an artsy film for the pretentious as stated by Giancarlo Esposito in the film over dinner. If you don't have a philosophy of life the script is filled with Hollywood life soundbites to live by. It is like taking a lude and watching Dr. Phil. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Let's Earl Grey sipping gay man who is half-Borg in his ambivalence towards women can't give us the chemistry to convince us so they use Romantic composer music to try and fill the gap?... What could go wrong? Star Dreck.
