This movie is *SLOW*. Painfully *SLOW*. I like this slowness when it gives realism to the dialogues of poor, ineducated people of the village, but this pace is also kept for the whole movie which continuosly insists on the same still scene for many seconds. Some scenes have also extremely dark light, so the mix of slowness and darkness can really make viewing this movie an uncomfortable experience at times. BUT, if you can take this, then you will be rewarded with a moving story of a corageuos, simple, harsh man, fighting for his ideals. There is nothing more than this in the movie: village life, the oppressive Church and Menocchio. Enjoy it, if you can. I somehow did.
