Visually mesmerising

Sanjay Leela Bhansali strikes yet another visually mesmerising sight with the 2hr 43min Padmaavat. Spread across Afghanisthan, Singhal and Rajasthan, each and every frame of the movie is visually stunning and is a treat for the eyes, including the actors, who look flawless. As for the actors in the film, Rani Padmavati(Deepika Padukone) puts up a good performance, with amazing dialogues. However, I expected some more screentime from her, and an even grittier performance. She looks bold and beautiful, but her real performance shone at the climax, which was again blown a tad too much, I felt. Ranveer Singh gives a brilliant performance once more as Allaudin Khilji. He portrays the vociferous, eccentric and ruthlessness of the character with ease, and nails it in every frame. Every slight action of his oozes out his character. His best so far. Raja Ratan Singh(Shahid Kapoor) is simply brilliant as the valiant king of Mewar. His bravery shone in his eyes, and dialogue delivery was on point. Why was he given such a small screentime? Was expecting to see him much more. He was simply amazing. Also, the movie stretched a tad bit long, and Shahid and Deepika's chemistry faltered. Somehow left for more

Excellent and glorious representation of a mega epic.

Padmaavati: Excellent and glorious representation of a mega epic. The story which seamlessly portrays the principles of Hindu Kings/soldiers, a brave queen and the saga of their life revolving around a mad evil outsider and invader. Expressions, acting, cinematography and dialogues are awesome. A bit slow, director could have added more background and story sequences to both the sides (Padmaavati and Khilji). About the Fuss: Totally irrelevant! The movie glues to the fact that Rajput kings never gave-up their bravery no matter what the situation is, so Karni sena you need to re-think before you take action on such things. What you did just de-graded the name of your ancestors. Where were you when people were protesting against Nibhaya case???? Bottom line is, the events in history were driven by the situation and thought process of kings as goes for leaders today. At that time also, politics was dirty, there were betrayals and deals. One great example is marriage of Jodha to Akbar, what was that more than a deal? Reacting to such things and creating social nuisances is just not done today. It is against freedom of speech. If you have objection, follow the law suite, don't take it in your hand, when the historians are not even sure if that character (Queen Padmaavati) actually existed! These stories just create awareness in today's generation about past. My son knows Ganpati story by heart because of movies like Friend Ganesha. I am sure very few people might have known about Gora/Badal, the brave soldiers, before this movie. Now, some of my friends will start crying why did movie not show Khilji more fierce and bad, this, that!!! So, I will say, my friend in 3 hrs. movie either you focus on glory of good or keep showing evils. Everything is time bound, do we do our work in daily life without time consideration, no right!!! The Ramayana which I saw in my childhood and the one which was telecasted recently had some changes, it added more unknown facts like Ram had a sister, etc. because time has changed/research work has matured!!! Jauhar: Definitely an act of bravery by queen and her fellows but really think from today's human being perspective, a lady is left with no choice as her husband is defeated and a mad invader is behind her. What a pain!!! No matter what caste/creed it is, women in history and even today in some cases are treated as objects whom you either want to have or destroy!!! Funny Side: Don't send your husband/boy friend for a task which he doesn't care much, else with pearls he may bring someone else as well... :D JAI BHAWANI!!!

Didn't live up to its potential!

Watching a Bhansali movie is always a treat. Padmaavat promised to leave a mark on Bollywood with its lavish set, gorgeous costume, breath-taking visuals, larger than life characters and a mesmerising music but if you remove all that Padmaavat is your mediocre Bollywood movie with foot tapping dance number. This movie didn't live up to its potential, a total waste of such fine actors and acting. When I say acting I mean brooding, delivering punch lines, looking gorgeous, flexing biceps and wielding swords. I started respecting Deepika as an actor after Ramleela, paired with Ranveer, this couple proved they are here to rule Bollywood but Padmaavat is going to disappoint fans of this couple. That being said, why didn't I rate this movie as low as possible? Like I said earlier, Bhansali's movies are a visual treat. You can hate them or you can love them but cannot deny that his movies are a class apart and he nobody can beat him in his own game. He is one of a kind filmmaker this industry needs who deserves appreciation for his work. I'm reviewing this movie after 12 hrs and even now I can't stop the background score playing in my head on a loop. That ending had me on the edge of my seat, it was the only saving grace of this sinking ship.
