I am so confused.

So the movie technically takes place on a small fictitious island, ruled by a fictitious monarchy. The King, a European man, had married an Asian woman, and he has since passed away. But the Island is located off the cost of Denmark, and is most likely inside Danish waters, or perhaps German - and here is what has me confused. Denmark is a small kingdom, we still have monarch, and we had a prince whom married a Chinese women back in the 90s. So was this movie originally just supposed to be set in Denmark, or what happened? Also, why does literally no one in this movie look like they are actually from this geographical region. I don't see a single blond kid in the movie. I am totally fine with the multi-ethnic cast, and I don't mind that it borrows from reality - I just don't understand why? If you want to teach kids about Denmark and it's monarchy then set it in Denmark. If you wan't to make a movie where everyone looks American high school students, then maybe set the movie in America or of the coast of Florida or something. It's really no wonder Americans don't know anything about Europe, when this much effort is put into confusing children.

Not good but not horrible either

This movie follows what has been a very successful formula for Disney. The cast of characters are very familiar to any who have seen Disney's made-for-cable movies, and there is no depth to any of them. The cast is ethnically diverse, so that no one could possibly be offended. The story is thin and forgettable. The "big surprise" in the movie was quite predictable. In short, for most adults this is a waste of time. However, if you know a girl somewhere between ten and sixteen years old, she might well appreciate seeing it, and perhaps boys of a similar age as well. It is empowering, as Disney movies tend to be. The message, while conveyed by so many other movies in better ways, is a good one. So if you have a child, consider it. If you are an adult fan of superhero movies, pass on this for a rerun of something you like.

What happened to disney?

A question i asked myself often lately. Artemis Fowl, the live-action version of Mulan and then this: when Will this fever dream of awfully bad movies stop? The only thing i have to say about this one is: bad. The set design, acting skills of the cast, story, dialogue,... all bad.
